The Role Model Program is offered as a resource to teachers wanting to extend Aboriginal curriculum in their classrooms. It is available to all teachers, at all grade levels. By bringing Aboriginal role models into the classroom, this program develops an understanding and respect of Aboriginal culture in all students.
A role model can:
-
provide an Aboriginal point of view to the subject matter
-
discuss aspects of Aboriginal history or traditions
-
share important aspects of Aboriginal culture
-
demonstrate their talents
-
teach special skills
-
provide a positive connection to the local communities
If you would like a First Nations role model to come into your classroom, simply complete the Role Model Request Form.
Forms are available on First Class.
- Go to the All Staff conference
- then click on the District Forms.
- There is a FIRST NATIONS DEPARTMENT FORMS FOLDER near the top, and in that folder you will find the “Role Model Request” pdf.
Fill out Part 1 only. It will need to be authorized by your principal, and faxed over to us at (250) 638-6397. Caroline Daniels, the Role Model Coordinator, will process your request and work with you to match a role model to your proposed activity.
We encourage you to take advantage of this amazing resource.
